But since I don't have a trust fund, an IRA, a pension, etc..., how can I retroactively win the Mega Millions lottery?

Do you expect me to time travel to Thursday. Obtain the winning numbers then travel back to today and invest in a ticket? Tsk Tsk! Too much work involved!

Of course I'm a liberal. I expect "free stuff" from the government. I'm still waiting for my government subsidized time machine. Wink

U reminded me of a joke (practical joke) I played on my friend, Elliot, Esq.
who used to work for the Michigan Mutual Insurance Co.
( I dunno if the humor travels well in writing or not, but I 'll give it a shot. )

When asked his opinion of how things 'd work out,
Elliot liked to joke: " I haven't gotten my Michigan Mutual Crystal Ball yet."

Once, I was walking thru a mall and I saw some crystal balls displayed for sale,
ranging in size from 2 inches in diameter to maybe 14 inches in diameter,
mounted upon brass pedestals. I bawt one for Elliot, of maybe around 1O inches
and I sent it to him in the mail, mis-representing the return address,
name & address, of the Michigan Mutual Insurance Co.

In a few days, he called me n we had a good laff about it.

U reminded me of it, when u commented about waiting for the time machine.

You can retroactively retire, but first: you must criticize, with your best sneer pasted across your face, anyone who would take free stuff from the government all while sitting on your high horse for which you took a $77,000 deduction from your taxable income in order to cover some of the money spent feeding and stabling said high horsie.

Luckily the horse is not a child, for a child, no matter how much you spend feeding and stabling it, you only get to take off $3800.

@tsarstepan,
I always forget to play, which is a shame. Last time, I only missed by 6 numbers.

@OmSigDAVID,
Oh, yeah. Both boys very big boys now.

That's what ticks me off. If I'd have known, I would have bought a dressage horse, taken him on trips and deducted the $77,000 in expenses off my taxes, instead I got stuck with a lousy couple of grand when they were little, about $3800 now.

I need a tax person to explain how you get to deduct the expenses of a dressage horse as a business expense?

@Joe Nation,
It used to be helpful if your dressage horse turned a profit in something like two (or three) of the last five tax years. If not, it probably becomes hobby income and expenses can only be applied to income from the same hobby.

@roger,
There's probably a dressage horse loophole that was slipped into the law somewhere.

@roger,
Okay, but wouldn't that mean he's have to make more than $77,000 from the activities of the horse in order to deduct the expenses from that income?

~~I suppose if the horse won a bunch of contests that could happen.~~
