In regard to poetry, the second one is consistent with couplet rhyming.

And also with the metre (rhythm) of the last line.
Thank you both.
As I recited the last line, I agreed with you guys that the second sounds better. The nuance that I don't understand is: (at least in form) requite, fate and spirit are rhythmically harmonious while bold not.
