Pueo, sending troops ashore to "protect American lives and property" sounds all too like our reasons for invading Iraq. Sugar--oil--greed.

Back to Oz:

Our prime minister (a little man in every way) has made a point of refusing to say "sorry" for the abysmal treatment of Australian Aborigines by whites since invasion. A small, but important gesture of reconciliation & good will.

Contrary to expectations a memorial service for the teen at the heart of this was without incident. I'm glad that we have not a repeat of earlier this week, but I am very unhappy about how quick some of our so-called 'leaders' and 'media figures' put the slipper into the entire Koori population of Sydney.
