George almost holds on to his after-one-event lead. He and Shuho are the only competitors with the leading combination of China women and Italy.

@tgordon92,
I have the same scores, except:

George 63

and

realjohnboy 35

For George, I think you're missing a bronze medal for Serbia.

For realjohnboy, I think you're missing Japan + South Korea OR United States-Men + Japan (from his list).

By the way, I found this site to be the best at listing Men and Women medal counts separately (use the tabs above the medal table):

@wheel158,
Thanks, Wheel! I've made the corrections in my spreadsheet, and they'll be reflected in tonight's standings.

@wheel158,
wheel158:

Here's something you might try with your Google Docs spreadsheet:

=ImportHtml("http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/medals.html"; "table";2)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with the NBC site, and Yahoo doesn't break it down by gender. However, it will automatically give you all but the four half teams when you refresh (F5) the page. It also uses different names for some countries (e.g. North Korea).

Thanks again to everyone for their corrections. This was a data entry problem, not a problem with the spreadsheet. I was keeping score as medals accumulated during the day and didn't cross check with the end-of-day totals, which I will do going forward. Markr's tabulation should be considered official for today.

@markr,
I have the same exact scores except for Eagleye43:

Eagleye43 51

You had her listed at 48...

Her scoring on my sheet is:

Eagleye43

Australia 9
Great Britain 4
Belarus 0
Cuba 3
Netherlands 8
Brazil 9
Kazakhstan 10
Norway 1
Romania 3
Turkey 0
Belgium 1
Croatia 0
Chinese Taipei 3
Mexico 0
Zimbabwe 0
51

One of the bolded countries is likely the difference...

@markr,
Interesting -- this would make scoring a snap! I'll have to give it a try.

Offhand, what are the 2nd and 3rd arguments/parameters? I see they are 'table' and '2', but just wondering if you can explain. If not, I'll do some research.

Thanks!

@wheel158,
Never mind, I figured it out -- it pulls the second table from the page. I'll have to try this out -- pretty cool! The only thing is, it'll pull the entire table in (including China and USA), but as long as they're name differently, it's not a deal-breaker.

Also, instead of using the NBC link I posted, try these links instead:

All: http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals/library/2012-standings/tabs/medals/_overall.html

Men: http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals/library/2012-standings/tabs/medals/_men.html

Women: http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals/library/2012-standings/tabs/medals/_women.html

@wheel158,
You got it - you can do lists too - here's the documentation:
https://support.google.com/docs/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=155182

And, as you probably already know, it works on the three sites you posted!

@wheel158,
It was Taipei. I had a mismatch in the name (Taipei vs. Taipei (Chinese Taipei)).

@markr,
I've been thinking about how to import just the China-Men, China-Women, USA-Men and USA-Women, and I'm wondering if this would do the trick:

ImportXML(URL, query)

Example: =importXml("http://www.toysrus.com"; "//a/@href"). This returns all of the href attributes (the link URLs) in all the <a> tags on http://www.toysrus.com homepage.

https://support.google.com/docs/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=155184

If that doesn't work, I guess I could import the Men standings and Women standings in their entirety, and specifically point to just the fields I need.
