Don Ameche who?
I'll be Don Ameche in a taxi honey, better be ready bout half past eight...

I remember this slightly differently... there was an entire episode of Mary Tyler Moore show, where they were trying to come up with a good knock-knock for Anna-Maria Albergheti.

Anna-Marie Albergheti in a taxi honey, better be ready 'bout half past eight... and fade to credits.

Nope, don't know who Don Ameche is.

P&L - I don't get yours either? OH! Just got it.

Acq - I googled too. Verry funny.

Don Ameche was a popular movie and TV actor of the past. He died about 10 years ago. You may remember him in "Cocoon" as one of the rejuvenated elders or in "Trading Places" as one of the rich brothers that switch Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy. His biggest role was Alexander Graham Bell in "The Story of A.G.B." in the late '30s.

I wanted to be part of the fun my older (not by much) siblings were having, so I made up my own knockknock joke.

Trees who?
There are many trees in the forest.

That may have been when I got my first blank stare.
