@Leadfoot,
Replacing CFCs was easy, but replacing fossil fuels isn’t. There’s also a super-powerful US lobby opposed to any action... Our children have no chance.

@cicerone imposter,
Timbuktu is in Mali. I'd like to see that.

@Leadfoot,
technology has made great strides, renewable energy is getting cheaper all the time, and electric cars will be the norm in about 20 years time.

We need better public transport, and if we really want to reduce emissions it should be heavily subsidised if not free.

@brianjakub,
You're being deliberately obtuse. Mali, and the Greenland ice belts are like the canaries they took down the mines. They're an early warning system. By halting desertification you help everyone.

I'm not going to waste anymore time on you because you're not interested in learning or moving forward, just arguing for arguments' sake.

Have you not heard of evolution, and how life forms learn to acclimate to their environment within certain parameters?

And so will we.

And we are getting there at a pace that is pretty amazing. But banning fossil fuel today would literally be murdering hundreds of millions of people, mostly poor ones.

In the city, that is the case. It should be the ONLY intracity transport. And it should be free or almost free and those that use the system should pay for it 100% via taxes or some other method.

But I do not expect anyone to offer me a free ride when I want to drive 2000 miles to my other shack in CO where it is impractical to offer a 'free' service.

@cicerone imposter,
Yes I have heard that life forms can adjust to climate change. if they didn't we wouldn't have evolution. I'm just wondering why you were so worried that it is not going to continue to happen when the climate changes again.? Dont you have faith in your own belief system?

@izzythepush,
I am not being obtuse. Your analogy is not valid . The reason I know it is not correct is because the earth was more successful in supporting diverse life forms in the past when the temperature was higher. Ecosystems move around the earth as the temperature and climate changes. The whole earth does it become a desert.

@Leadfoot,
Banning is not the same as cutting down. Coal, the dirtiest of all fuels needs to be phased out ASAP. I think you're being a bit melodramatic when you claim the following.

Quote:
But banning fossil fuel today would literally be murdering hundreds of millions of people,

I really don't know how you come up with that. Are you talking of people dying from hypothermia or job losses? Clean technology offers jobs, far safer and healthier jobs than being down a mine.

@izzythepush,
Nope, I was being literal. And the number is more likely in the billions.

It would also result in more forest devastation due to increased charcoal demands, which is a major factor in deforestation along with 3rd world farming techniques.

If you don't agree, you don't understand the reality of energy use.

@Leadfoot,
It would help if you actually had something to back up what you're saying. I'm sorry it sounds like hysterics to me.

And nobody is calling for an outright ban on fossil fuels.

That is because - You don't understand the reality of energy use in the world.

@Leadfoot,
So you've got nothing, and instead of owning up to the truth you start throwing out insults.

I have not asked for a total ban on fossil fuels so you can't even argue against the points made.

As you lot like to say, **** or get off the pot.

Please take note of which one of us has made concrete suggestions to cut fossil fuel use and which of us has just slammed the other.

It looks as if you are the constipated one.

@Leadfoot,
I've not seen any suggestions at all, just wild hysteria and complacency. The Paris Accord did set out concrete solutions to deal with climate change but your president shat all over that to help his pals in the fossil fuels lobby.

Sorry, I didn't know you can't comprehend English. I was just chatting with Setanta who has the same problem. He uses emojis instead, maybe you could try that.

@Leadfoot,
So much for trying to be civilised. There's nothing wrong with my comprehension, you can't argue your point because you don't have one and you're way too stupid to see it.
