I was both surprised and appalled to think that there are 70 million evangelicals . . . i would question the number, and how many might be children of professed evangelicals. At all events, even half that number is a frightening prospect.

Fortunately, Seattle was free of the type. They tended not to venture across Lake Washington, or north out of Pierce County. Don't know how the situation is for you folks in Washington-Minora.

Is that a Supermarine Spitfire, HB?

I ask because it looks like one, except for the canopy.

Spitfire IXB. Bored with my avatar, dipped into my aviation photos. You can't really see the canopy well, since the photo had to be so squished to fit . Very Happy

From the CBS-link:
Quote:
Evangelical Christians form one of the most potent forces in American politics and society. They are people who place their faith, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, above everything else in their lives and hope to spread that Gospel to the world.

And here in Germany (and Europe), Evangelical Christians are mostly on the (very) left site of all Christian churches (you know, female bishops, gay marriages, social-democratic supporters etc)Shocked

I want to know why you claim to be one and why you are not and what led you to your decision.

I am not a Christian anymore because I studied the bible and found out that it was not the religion for me. Wink

I am a *struggling* Christian. I was raised (and still am being raised) in a Catholic family, though I strongly do not consider myself Catholic. I see myself a Christian, and nothing else. I don't know why exactly I am a Christian, but as the bible mentioned, God chose us, we didn't choose to follow him. I guess that's so with me. I think Christianity offers the best explaination to me as to why we exist and why things happen. I want so much to have as much faith in Christianity as I was like 5 years ago... I'm struggling really, but I'm not letting go. I do believe though, in the unity of Christianity, where I hope one day, there won't be other dominations or whatever, just one true Christianity. My decision to remain as a Christian is because I was made a Christian, by no one else, but God. And even though I know I could to be more of a Christian, the reason I'm still a Christian (though just a tiny lil bit) is because of being chose. Otherwise I would have not been a Christian anymore since 2 years ago. That's how long I've been struggling...

Sorry if my post is too jumpy and doesn't really make any sense. That's how I am trying to explain stuff... I'm crap at it... some disorder I guess...

No disorder, Carmill, people are not commonly taught to be articulate--as a result, the abilitity to clearly articulate one's thoughts seems rare, because it is often only displayed by those possessed of it as a talent. The ancient Romans taught their children (those of the privileged classes) rhetoric and public speaking. That was, for a time, a valued teaching strategy in western civilization. Saddly, it no long is the case. Even those with a talent for expressing themselves articulately often stumble, especially in such a setting as this, in which we attempt to express our ideas by typing them in the little window, even as those ideas form in our minds. Don't be hard on yourself about this. As well, you can come back later when your ideas have formed up better, and state your thoughts again.

I believe you are sincere; i don't agree with your view--i applaud your effort to refine your understanding in order to make the best choice for yourself.

Shocked Okey that's awesome. I could never write anything like that, lol. But anyway, I think that I still have some things to add. Say, why do I not want to 'categories' my Christianity? Especially being categories a Catholic. Because the Catholic church (atleast here) is such a hypocrite.

1. They say we should not worship idols. We have a huge fountain of the Virgin Mary where there are 234873948 coins in the fountain. People go there and pray to a pointless fountain. Why should a fountain be there at the first place anyway?? And there are even more statues inside the church...

2. I don't pray to Mary or to any other saints. I pray to one God, and one God alone. Am I not worthy enough to pray to God that I have to go through 10 saints in order for my prayer to reach Him? No. I believe God listens to anyone at all. I don't need a 'medium of communication'.

3. I don't like kneeling in front of the priest. I don't worship him.

4. If I want to be forgiven, I don't need to go through a priest for that to happen. I can ask for forgiveness anytime anyhow I want. I don't believe that if I don't go through a priest, I'm not forgiven.

5. I don't believe in the saperation of Christianity. Why? We believe in the same God, the same teaching. There is no need to differ. We all have individual differences. That can't change but for the sake of our religion, why do we have to say "I'm a Catholic, you're a Protestant etc."

Done. Very Happy
