Would I know why they were upset?

How about: sorry! I promise it won't happen very often!

Why promise something if the other person is upset over something s/he had no cause to be?

If a friend/significant other got upset because you didn't something that harmed no one, made you personally happy, and was productive?
We have no idea why this other person became upset. Maybe a control freak.

Why promise you won't do something, or say you're sorry, when perhaps the other person stepped over the line in demanding something from you, that you didn't want to give up?

Depending on the situation, the proper response might be "that's too bad, deal with it."

This is impossible to answer unless you know the circumstances.

Sometimes people need to be "upset." Other times, it's just an attack.

The OP has one other post here...makes me think she's about 13 or 14.

Like she's in the place where something is always her fault.

Look how important this makes her, she has the power to upset someone, and gets to feel guilty about it too. It's a win/win.

Partner is an un-usual term for someone young so I am going to assume you are not young.

Sorry would be the first word. And, then count your loses if you did something un-toward to the relationship.. You can't take back something that should not have been within a relationship not even words, you can correct a mistake but if it's infedility? Then na.

If you used words to hurt him? And that upset him, words are usually true..in the heat of the moment so why backtrack?

And, if you said something about family, same thing.

You can't back track.

If you are in-fact young and used the word "partner" ask what you did, was it really wrong? Or were you being you... And, if it was wrong, then again wear it.. put it down to lessons learnt.

how could you make someone your lifetime partner if you hadn't talked about what might upset you? Why are you hurling your life at a guy you just hope agrees with you on stuff.
