Why does my dog keep try to bite edge of back door?

My dog keeps barking at the back doors and always jumps at them, but when we let him out he just barks at the doors and wants to be let back in. He will bite the back doors and when they are open he will bark at them and always jump up at them. How can I stop this habit?

@Darren Hodge,
Get a dog door fitted to one of your back doors - then he can go in and out whenever he likes. See if that solves the problem, if not: do you have raccoons or any such animals coming up to your back doors at night to eat from your trash? He's probably smelling those and trying to warn you.
