Well, I do know the full text (manifesto originally) as well as the context when it was used later (as a text against the founding of the Social Democratic Party).

If you have the time, the first part of Das Capital is a great read, with lots of history in the whole book... The manifesto was stupid... It raised more arms against socialism than it raised for socialism... To the extent that it was a warning it fed the idea of social safety nets; But now that communism is thought broken, the idiot rich think they can live without even those... Let them try because I know people resist change only so long as the can resist it, and if they must work for the government, fight for it, and even join with it at times, but the government only holds them powerless in their own defense while they starve, then there will be no holding them back.. You will never get rid of capitalism completely... People will always seek advantage over others... What people do for the worst of motives should never have the support of government, and should instead always meet with resistence...

You guys really want to live in a socialist country?? Then move to China, or maybe even Cuba (it's closer.) Then, when you make any kind of living, they can "redistribute" it to the poor and make everyone equal. That way, you have nothing to be proud of. Despite whether or not the story about the professor is true, the point is very clear. Socialism (or whatever you are calling it these days) is not something I am interested in, and neither is most of America.

@thecarter,
Perhaps you should try being interested in education. It's something you seem to be lacking.

Or try Switzerland. Switzerland would give you a realistic preview for the amount of Socialism Obama is actually trying to introduce to the US. Billionaires tend to like Switzerland---maybe they're Socialists, too. Or you could look (in alphabetical order) at France, Germany, or Sweden, all of which have adopted more Socialism than US Democrats are planning to introduce. If Switzerland, France, Germany and Sweden don't strike you as hellholes once you've looked at them, you have nothing to fear from Obama, Reid, and Pelosi.

State capitalism is not much of an improvement upon anarchal capitalism; but only look at who is loaning us money just so we can act like we are the enemies of socialism... You could not go to the doctors without socialism, and you would have no road to drive on without socialism... The only problem is that we have the socialism of poverty and will have more of it as more wealth is privatized...
