.... how many beatings will he have at the end of one week?
This was a question asked on 3rd grade homework by a school in Georgia.
Another question:
Quote:Each tree had 56 oranges. If 8 slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?
The school says they are trying to incorporate social studies into the math curriculum.
Outraged parents say the kids haven't even studied slavery yet so WTF.
I think it's a good idea to study things in a co-mingled way and that in the proper context these MIGHT have been okay math questions to ask. Slavery was ugly and letting kids see the ugly side of it would be a good way to drive the lesson home.
Others think the questions are completely wrong headed in any context.
