Closing out for the year

This is the time of year we take out the new wall calendar and record important dates for the year.

Also, I'm taking a final recording of how my stocks did for the year.

I'm taking out some clothes I bought that still have the tags on them....too late to return, but maybe I'll post on ebay. This is the first time I've added this to my year end doings. I normally wouldn't, but being between jobs I wouldn't mind the cash.

I look at my budget, and see if any items need to be added, deleted or changed.

What practical do you do to close out the year?

@chai2,
Oooh, nothing so practical really.

I buy a new desk calendar at the end of November, as more and more January appointments start piling up. This year the calendar started on Monday, December 26th, so that's when I made the switch.

I don't do stocks.

I'm doing some cleaning today but that's pretty much normal cleaning.

I generally don't do New Year's Resolutions.

I do start thinking about the coming year though, now that the holiday season is over, and getting back to normal life.

@chai2,
Oh.
As I'm sitting here, I'm also finding these cryptic little notes to myself that can get tossed.

Bamboo toilet stick?
Football 2nd and 4th?
Rhonda opnt?

@chai2,
I ususlly go through clothes, if I haven’t worn them in a year I’ll take them down to Metro Charities thrift store, plus then I get to go shopping for new ones.

Time to sort out the workbench. Amazing how much crap accumulates.

What made me think I was going to reuse those curtain rods? Was that
spackle in that jar?

Bent nails? Really? I was saving bent nails?

I wonder how many of those paint cans have anything like usable paint in
them.

There's a bag of tools that Nigel finally returned. Guess I should put them
away.

@Reyn,
Hi Reyn!

I resigned back in Oct. My last day was 10/21.

Since the 2nd week in Nov, I was working on a temp assignment (making 1/2 of what I did make, but enough to pay bills). I've been sending out resumes, and have actually gone on a 2nd interview for a really good job. I'll be getting a call back around mid January for the 3rd and final round.

I get the impression I'll either be the only candidate called back for the 3rd, or at most they'll only be 2. They are looking to start someone by the end of January.

The temp assignment I was on ended Friday. I'll need to pick up another one as soon as I can.

It's been a really nice break.

@chai2,
I just finished working on my front courtyard, got rid of old plants, cleaned out the pots and stored them in the garage...now it looks much nicer and ready for 2012. All that's left is the Christmas tree and decoration.....

A goodly Goodwill store trip, two much stuff accumulating in a ready to go to Goodwill corner of the garage. Will check their bookshelves while I'm there.

Gave the stove a fairly good cleaning. This makes me feel virtuous, but it'll pass.

Cleaned out one bookcase today plus a few other places. Filled one trash can and six sacks of recyclables. I wanted to do more, but I needed Hubby's help. He was cleaning out the garage. I guess we both get the urge to throw away old stuff at this time of year.

Tomorrow we start taking down Christmas decorations.

Negatory.

But I haven't been looking for the past few months. I've been dealing with my 85 year old mother who has dementia (Alzheimer's). Even though she is in housing for elderly folks, it's not 24 hour care, which is what she needs.

We hope to get on a wait list for this next month, as my wife and I have no life lately with this stuff going on.

I've been looking after my mother, in various degrees, since about summer 2010.

@Reyn,
Sympathy from here, Reyn. I went through it back when none of us knew the word alzheimers. Horrendo, and not short.
Take time for yourself somewhere in all this. Find some joys, and enjoy them without guilt or similar feelings.

We care about you here.

Weighed myself this morning.
I knew I shouldn't have eaten all those rum balls over Christmas.
The devil made me do it!

@Reyn,
Greeting to you, Reyn.
And my sympathy for what you & your wife have been going through as a result of your mother's illness.
I hope she is able to receive 24 hour care soon.

@msolga,
Went for coffee with Diane mid day here, at a new and dangerous cafe, not far from either of our places. Or BFN and BBB's either.
Called simply donut shop, but it's run by Pakistanis (love their food), and serves what looks like to die for muffins, and very different bagels than the usual, for which I'm usually a stickler but won't be in this case. Nice people, comfortable place, delicious coffee. Now how can I go to my grocery store without crossing the lot and checking in there..

@ossobuco,
You won't be able to help yourself, osso.
I certainly couldn't! Smile

Sounds better for you than 25 rum balls, anyway. Neutral
