What does this paragraph mean? It seems that it can be divided into two parts. What's the relationship between the two parts? Contradictory? Progressive?

What does "acting outside of the norm", "chooes words that serve you", and "look out world" mean?

It means doing something different than you normally would. Trying something new. Taking a chance.

Progressive from this person's perspective.
