That's why Josef Penninger sees this powerful technology as a revolution in biomedicine. "We've now succeeded in combining the genetics of yeast, which has a single chromosome set that allows instant gene mutation, with stem cell biology," he says. "For decades researchers have been looking for a system in mammals which would allow scientists to reconstruct millions of gene mutations simultaneously. We have solved the puzzle and even broke a paradigm in biology -- we managed to make stable mouse stem cells with a single set of chromosomes and developed novel tools to use such stem cells to rapidly check virtually all genes at the same time for a specific function."
to put together, to mix, to add to, to unify..I can't think of a perfect synonym.
Of course I knew that before posting.
So the problem of understanding is caused by the definition of genetics, which should mean "the genetic properties and phenomena of an organism" there.
What Penninger apparently means here is that in the new research being done, these two things -- the genetics of yeast and stem cell biology -- are being used in combination to achieve the desired results.

Wow. The long interval caused so funny a misunderstangding.
Thanks a lot.

Am I on the right track?
Thank you.
You didn't ask about "genetics". You asked about "combining".

Yeah. I took "genetics" as " the science of heredity in biology" for granted. Thus "combining science" appears mysterious, which led to the posting
