The class of trade he (James G. Commin) has cultivated has been of the higher order of second-hand books, first editions, standard books, and a speciality with regard to topographical books of the Western Counties, especially Devon.
He sells used books, but he doesn't sell pop fiction or things like romance novels or three year old mysteries. He deals only in old, rare, valuable books that collectors or bibliophiles would buy. If you could get it in the paperback racks at an airport bookstore to read on the plane, he wouldn't be interestedd in it.
@MontereyJack,
What does "higher order " mean there, Jack?
Better quality, more valuable, rare, some of specialized interest that may be hard to find, not run-of-the-mill mass market paperbacks.
