@MMarciano,
My little boy's idea of decorating is sticking a plastic poo on my chair every time I get up.

You know I never knew a five year old could be so smart. This little person has a hundred questions everyday and he always makes me think.

@MMarciano,
You should pay down those student loans as soon as possible. Most of the students I knew were always broke.

@jcboy,
Eggnog is one of those things that hasn't crossed the pond. I must say I don't like the sound of it though. Rum, is a different matter, I prefer Mount Gay, (no pun intended) at the moment I'm drinking cockspur, (again no pun intended). Golden rum is by far the best, over here Bacardi only do a white rum.

Waddaya mean "Hasn't crossed the pond yet"? You guys STARTED it, apparently as something for the decadent aristocracy to drink as they watched the serfs mucking out the cow barn, a traditional part of Yuletide celebration:

Quote:
The origins, etymology, and the ingredients used to make the original eggnog drink are debated. Eggnog may have originated in East Anglia, England; or it may have simply developed from posset, a medieval European beverage made with hot milk. The "nog" part of its name may stem from the word "noggin", a Middle English term used to describe a small, carved wooden mug used to serve alcohol.[2] However, the British drink was also called an Egg Flip (from the practice of "flipping" (rapidly pouring) the mixture between two pitchers to mix it).

Another story is that the term derived from "egg and grog", a common Colonial term used for the drink made with rum. Eventually that term was shortened to "egg'n'grog", then "eggnog".[3]

In Britain, the drink was popular mainly among the aristocracy; dairy products and eggs were rarely consumed by the lower classes due to their high cost and the lack of refrigeration. Those who could get milk and eggs mixed it with brandy, Madeira or sherry to make a drink similar to modern alcoholic egg nog.[citation needed]

My local supermarket has those traditional seasonal drinks, ricenog and soynog (really)--the last sounds totally disgusting and if there really is a war on Christmas that has to be an inegral part of it.

@MontereyJack,
I'll take it on good faith, but it's died out,(thankfully). Some people drink advocaat, which has always struck me as similarly horrible. Over here we mull cider or wine if we want a hot drink. I've got some home brewed cider that touches the spot quite nicely when warmed up with some sugar, citrus fruits and spices, I tend to stick a bit of gin in as well.

@jcboy,
If I remember rightly it's got 4 different rums in it, including overproof rum. Talking of which, have you ever tried this stuff?

I don't like rum, brrrrr, I hope you feel better by now, jcboy!
German eggnog has already alcohol (cognac) in it and it's delicious, not sweet and thick like American eggnog (I can't drink that stuff).

@CalamityJane,
hehe, it took me a couple of hours but I finally got over the headache. I’m not a big drinker and I really don’t care for rum.

I have a vacation day today so I’ll be heading over the bridge to Tampa to do some Christmas shopping at the International Mall
