The drs probably told her she would never walk. She defied that diagnosis and walked down the aisle anyway (yes it means got married, but that walk down the aisle is important because it symbolizes what no one thought she could do)

She really defied the doctor's prognosis regarding her condition--their dire prediction about possible recovery from her symptoms/disease.

She didn't defy the diagnosis--she really did suffer from Guillain-Barre disorder.

A member of my family also made a full recovery from that same disorder. It is quite frightening to be suddenly paralyzed like that and not know with any certainty whether the symptoms will go into remission or improve.
