I am reading a book concerning how to improve the quality of our life, and the word "affirmations" occur from time to time, so I post some of the paragraphs containing this word and hope that some of you will be kind enough to explain to me the meaning of this word.
Thanks!

"What a way to travel! As i listen to her driving affirmations, such as 'I bless my car with love; I send love to everyone on the road', i think about the idea of sending love to every person on the road."

"I started affirming the changes I want to make, with a focus on self-love. I began writing, speaking and pasting affirmations around the house, such as "changing my thoughts are easy; I love improving my thoughts."

@maple,
What you have here is a writer who has gotten hung up on a word that he/she uses every chance he/she gets, often quite inapropriately. The use and misuse of a word like "affirmation" is quite commonplace among certain religious writers. They will write drivel like "My ordering a ham-on-rye sandwich was an affirmation of my extreme hunger and gratitude to the Lord for providing sustenance." Or: "We affirmed our commitment to each other by immediately jumping into bed." See what I mean? It means whatever the writer wants it to mean, regardless of what the dictionary says.
