I am thinking about changing to a cheaper Medicare drug plan. My question is, do I cancel my old plan or does Medicare or the new plan do that for me? Thanks!

@Victor Murphy,
When you start a new plan, the old one automaticaly cancels. You can not be billed for both. If your timing is off, you might send in a payment for the new one, and it could overlap the auto deduction for the old one. In that case, the old payment will be returned by way of a sort of negative deduction from your first check of the year. You do what whatever you're going to do and they pick up all the pieces for you.

@roger,
By the way, make sure you go online and verify that your prescriptions are covered, and check out the deductables (if any) and the copay. There is enormous variation between plans. I observe that they all offer good coverage of the WalMart $4.00/month medications. Nearly all are less forthcoming on the more expensive items.
