It's as specific as that class of cells are described in the article, which i'm not going to take the time to read. Now, based on the context which you provided, the class of "brain cells" (it actually says, initially, nerve cells) are inhibitory cells--cells which prevent something from happening. Based on the context you have provided, that is how specific it is.
By the way, the use of the term comprehensive implies that specificity is being sought. The researchers seek a means which will identify that class of cells, and that class of cells only--hence, they seek a comprehensive means of identifying the cells.
