As anyone who has read my posts before knows, I'm anti drug war. I think of it as employment for searching things that are ok.

Well, not always ok, but that people trying to obliterate are a symptom of other matters.

On the other hand, I hate some drugs, so I'm mixed on all this.

I also drink alcohol, not always wisely.

I think the war against all this has borne the cartels.

There is no war on drugs and never has been. Since the reign of George Bush the First, the phrase has been cleverly used to disguise the government's continuing war on our civil liberties. And, yah, the money-laundering is a part of it.

Yes, it was a rush. Still, this is ongoing as a question.

Money laundering?

The CIA, NSA and others all need to account for the type of funds that financed, say, the Contras. It's been long rumored and suspected that the CIA in particular gets some of its funding not from Congress-approved government funds but from wheeling and dealing and skimming profits from people like the Medallin Cartel and heaven knows who else. Manuel Noriega of Panama was a source, but made the collosal mistake of trying to free-lance, independent of his handlers from McLean, VA. So he's cooling his heels in a Federal penitentiary now.

"Laundering" may not be the exact right word here but financial considerations are certainly involved, e.g. the universally-accepted practice of confiscating a suspected dealer's assets before said dealer has even been indicted, let alone convicted of anything.

If you do, read up on Iran-Contra. The money Ray-gun wanted was to support the Contras, but it had to come from an illicit source, since Congress had expressly forbidden the disbursement of funds to the Contras. This is where the CIA and Oliver North came in. They arranged for spare parts for their American aircraft and other equipment to be sold to the Persians, and then those funds were used to support the Contras--hence, Iran-Contra.
