He/she is is saying that they've never seen claims in their 30 years experience, which is why premiums need to increase and I think they meant to say that they've never seen so many claims ;-)

Oh! I was wondering about that too, caprice. I read it as saying because the claims have risen so sharply, the premiums have too. ("claims, and therefore, premiums...") One of those comma things, like "Eats shoots and leaves" (vs. "eats, shoots, and leaves") I guess.

In other words, "I have never seen claims rise so sharply, and that sharp rise in claims means that we have to sharply increase the premiums if we're going to pay off all of those claims."

all you have to do is take out
Quote:
, therefore,
and it'll be clear.

It won't make the end result any more pleasant.
It's gonna be a tough slog to get the premiums to go down. Clinics are going to have to accept less for treatment $, governments/courts are going to have to be a lot tougher on those who make fraudulent claims, and the interest rate has to go up.

Jespah and I once worked for the same insurance company - the branch I was in paid out $1.28 in claims for every $1.00 they brought in on premiums. A 3 - 5 % interest return just isn't going to make up the difference.

when i see what's going on on the highway, i am not surprised to see the premiums go up. a week ago we had a bit of a snowstorm - not even a whiteout - and during a 24 hour period we had 17 MAJOR accidents. this was on a stretch of four-lane highway (401) that is well-maintained and has a fairly even grade. the police had to tell the towtruck-operators to stay OFF the highway because drivers were plowing into the towtrucks trying to pull transports and cars out of the ditches. too many drivers are unwilling to reduce speed when the weather turns nasty - I"M IN A HURRY, CAN"T AFFORD TO SLOW DOWN ! the results are only to obvious. hbg

It still doesn't make sense to me and it sounds like they've never seen claims Rolling Eyes

I hear that loud and clear. I am always complaining about the way people drive with bad road conditions. They just don't have a clue and shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Idiots!

I'm always amazed when I see people in pick-ups and 4-wheel drives on on- and off- ramps. Hello people, slow down, you're on a curve. Every ditch off a ramp during rain or snow seems to be full. The last time I went to visit to Setanta - there wasn't a single off-ramp without a pick-up or SUV in it for about 20 miles! (after 3 in a row, I started paying attention to them). O.K., it was raining, but cars and transport trucks were managing to stay on the roads and ramps.

Montana, apply the grammar rules to it - take out the word between the commas. It's actually a perfectly structured sentence.

I get it now Beth, but the way I typed it is the way they put it exactly. What a bunch of dopes.

Yeah, those people in the pick up trucks think they are the king of the road. They have some blinded notion that just because they have 4 wheel drive, that the ice and snow is only dangerous for people in cars. I have studded tires on my car and still drive like a grandma when the road conditions are bad while these pick up trucks blast by me. It really ticks me off because they are putting everyones lives in danger. In the winter when the roads get bad, I've started stalking up on food just so I won't have to go out there and get killed by some showoff jackass! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Montana - the way you typed it at first is the correct way.
I was just taking it apart to show you the grammatical structure.

Montana, I think part of the problem in New Brunswick is the attitude a lot of people have towards driving. Two examples. One of my cousins and I were talking about speeding tickets once and he remarked that if they were from out of province he just throws them away because the province had no reciprocal agreements, particularly with states and he could therefore drive as he pleased. The second incident occurred in a small cross roads community just outside of St John. A guy in a pick up truck, "drunk as a lord" failed to negotiate a curve and flipped his truck. He was unhurt and the locals who knew him laughed it off as another cute example of a local "character". I was down their with my family at the time and that attitude scared the day lights out of me. This kind of thinking ultimately is reflected in insurance rates.

I hear ya. They think that stuff is hysterical up here. There was this guy that lived up the road who everyone around here called Bernie the painter who was drunk one night (people said he was always drunk) and slammed head on into a car loaded with family members less than a half mile from here. Bernie the drunken painter died and even though everyone in the car he hit lived, they all had broken bones and the man that was driving had major damage to his ram, legs, and back, so he will live with pain for the rest of his life. Some people get offended when I tell them that the drivers around here suck, but maybe then they'll stop and think.
One of the biggest problem I have with a lot of the drivers here is that they don't keep their eyes on the road. I'll be coming around a corner and all of a sudden I see this car coming right at me in my lane and almost drive me off the road and the $%#&*&$ driver of the car was looking at the passenger in their car instead of having their eyes on the road. This happens constantly and I never thought I'd see the day where I'm afraid to drive. I absolutely love it where I live, so this is just one of those things that really bugs me.

The driving in Newfoundland is worse. I'd be on a road with a clift face on one side, the sea on the other, and an RV coming towards me with a dozen cars behind it and some fool would be passing them all. We called it Newfee free style driving.

Now think about what Bernie probably paid in insurance premiums (if he carried insurance), and what that accident cost everyone who buys insurance in New Brunswick. It's freakin' infuriating.

Another story. My cousins daughters and her long time boyfriend were expecting a child and had their wedding date set for this June. My cousins daughter had ber baby shower this past November and she and her soon husband to be were so excited because they had been trying to have a child for several years and here she was expecting in Feb. A week after the baby shower her soon to be husband went hunting with one of his buddies. On their way back they spotted a deer in the woods, so they pulled their car over and was watching the deer. In the mean time in the other lane there was a pick up truck driving towards them with an illegal trailor connected to the back of his truck. As the truck got closer, the trailor came unhitched, the driver in the pick up lost control of his truck and smashed head on into the two mens car killing them both. Now I better stop before I hit something.
