I have a 5 yr old Golden Doodle that has just begun to scratch the doors and door molding of the room that she is left in while we are out. If we leave her in her crate she chews and destroys it to get out. She has never been abused in any way and we are at our wits end.
If we keep her crated while we are out she has broken out of the crate. So, we've left her in say the family room or bedroom and she will scratch the doors and molding to where it is shredded and splintered.
It is to the point where I have to replace the door and molding in 3 different rooms. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
5 years old - and 'just began' this behavior?
That sounds like puppy behavior to me.
Are there changes in the homelife? People back to work or school? Kids gone during the day?
Be sure there's lots of exercise opportunties for this dog.
Other than that, get the dog a good physical by your vet.
Thyroid or urine infection comes to mind.
