how can u tell if a goldfish is going to lay eggs

my male goldfish has a red line on its back and the female is fat and they are both on the bottom of the tank but they jump if u look at them and i am scard that if they do have eggs and they die because my brother washes the tank and i think last time my brother killed the eggs and the male is very close to the female and he is on his side and SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME !!! i am scard PLEASE
