Can "constrain" be used as a noun?

I think the usage is grammatically wrong.
What do you say?

Plus, I think the use "fire-new " here in collocation with "burn" is unpleasant. Better be substituted with "completely new." Do you agree?

Context:

Upon graduation from Hutan Medical University of China in 1982., Prof. Xx completed thesis in which he broke the traditional constrain of keeping the wound dry to form scars and scientifically established a fire-new burn physiological theory and method.

@oristarA,
The noun form is contraint. This is the word that should be used in this context.

I think it should be constraint, not contraint. The latter is an adjective.

I'm sure that was just a typographical error on Max's part. Constraint is the noun form.

I'd say something like "a new theory of burn physiology and treatment methods."

Thank you.
Should "completed thesis " be "completed his thesis ?"
