Behind the curtain, the room was small and cramped and dimly lit. Luce passed stacks of manuscripts and open wardrobes full of costumes, ogling a massive lion’s-head mask and rows of hanging gold and velvet cloaks.

What does the word 'ogle' mean here?

Looking at with a desire/wish to possess would be my take with perhaps an element of surprise.

The word ogle is usually used for a man looking at an attractive woman (or occasionally a woman looking at a man). It conveys a meaning of amorous or even lustful intent.

I don't think this is well written, but I suppose the idea is that Luce is lusting after these things.
