No, my argument isn't that at all. The rate of inflation at either point in history has nothing to do with my argument. (Inflation in 1980 was much higher than it is in 2011, the opposite of your statement.)
I was merely pointing out that your statement about comparing the dollar amounts over different years is meaningless when you are talking debt.
The US debt for the revolutionary war was about $77 million.
The US debt for WW2 was $210 billion
The US debt for Afghanistan and Iraq has been $1.2 trillion.
Comparing those figures without accounting for inflation would imply that the first 2 wars listed cost very little.
