The lamb thy riot dooms to bleed to-day,
Had he thy reason, would he skip and play?
Pleas'd to the last he crops the flow'ry food,
And licks the hand just rais'd to shed his blood.
If a lamb were able to reason, would he be skipping about joyfully,
knowing he was about to be slaughtered? Instead, he goes on grazing
right to the end and even licks the hand that is about to kill him.

The innocent young lamb skips and plays around the meadow and stops to eat the flowers, then comes up to you to lick your hand in affection, little knowing you're about to kill him and eat him.

Little lamb, you were born to die
Skip and play and without the why to die
The life you eat so sweet you taste to die
and kiss the hand that turns your dreams to lies
