Should I have applied?

I recently read a newspaper article of this company bringing more jobs into the state. It is a company within the industry I currently work in. My husband read the same article. Being a recruiter, the first thing he thought of - look them up and see what jobs are available.

So there is one that is right up with my experience. Difficult to tell if the position is a level higher or not - it appears to be at least my level, but sounds more likely higher.

My company has been sending jobs out of state and movement upward has been almost stopped in a sense. There is also a good possibility of my job moving out of state next year. So he suggested I apply.

As far as jobs in the industry and companies, my company is a bit better than most - as in working environment. I also currently do not have much in the way of outside clients (my preference) - this would be all outside clients.

I did apply - the job is much further as in commuting - although if we sell our place (which we are trying to do), we could buy bigger and cheaper near this job.

I applied - but have doubts...thoughts..

@Linkat,
My thoughts are: it's only an application so what's the harm? Also, maybe it really is a better job. Interviewing is always good experience, as well. I say you have nothing to lose and something, perhaps, to gain.

@Linkat,
Sure you should have applied. Back in the '80s most of the aerospace and defense contractors were constantly interviewing. Not hiring, but interviewing. That was their way of finding out what the competition was paying and what they were doing. This is your opportunity to find out what they are doing and what they are like. You can learn a lot about a company just from how they treat people who are looking for work.

I'm not saying you should accept an offer, but go learn about them.

@roger,
I guess I'm worried - it is a "small" industry - in a sense - some one is going to know you- and I dont want a rep of I'm looking or job jumping - that sort of thing.

well no worries here - I was already turned down - quickest turndown in history.

I received some automated type email response from HR yesterday - I gave my home email so I didn't get it until last night -

My husband is a recruiter (in a different industry) - he thought with the quickness of the response that I was probably too expensive which makes it seem they made the job sound higher level than it actually was.

@Linkat,
Well at least they gave you the courtesy of a form letter (email).

Still, sorry you didn't get the job. Sad

@tsarstepan,
That's ok - I wasn't 100% interested in at this point - I do like where I am as far as jobs go - but I am a bit concerned that in a year, my job could be moving out of state.

@Linkat,
I have to admit I hadn't considered that. In our local O&G servicing industry, there are more than enough "back channel" communications to defeat any normal concept of confidentiality.
