“Clockers" asks--almost in passing, and there's a lot more to it than this--a pretty interesting question: if you choose to work for the minimum wage when everyone around you is pocketing thousands from drug deals, then what does that do to you, to your head and to your heart?

(Hornby's thoughts after reading "Clockers" by Richard Price)”

@Lustig Andrei,
An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied.

The problem is, Merry, you have to keep flipping your ideas to that single brain cell.

@edgarblythe,
Wouldn't Voltaire have had a field day with the USA?

@JTT,
See the USA in your Chevrolet
America is asking you to call
Drive your Chevrolet through the USA
America's the greatest land of all

On a highway, or a road along the levy
Performance is sweeter, nothing can beat her
Life is completer in a Chevy

So make a date today to see the USA
And see it in your Chevrolet

Traveling East, Travelling West
Wherever you go Chevy service is best
Southward or North, near place or far
There's a Chevrolet dealer for your Chevrolet car

So make a date today to see the USA
And see it in your Chevrolet.

@edgarblythe,
No doubt that wasn't what Voltaire had in mind, Ed. There are indeed many things dandy about the US. But those things dandy do not have anything to do with the absolute evil that exists alongside the dandy.

It's pretty silly to say "America's the greatest land of all " when it has been, since its inception, murdering people in order to seize their wealth.

But you and I know that's just part of the incessant propaganda that has turned so many into zombie like creatures, completely unable to think for themselves.

@edgarblythe,
Rubbish. I've had wenches who I never grew weary of. Quite the opposite in fact. Serious misogyny there ed. Doughnut filling level.

Which entails that there were some that you did, Spendi.

I think that both you and Ben shared more than a measure of misogyny.
