Before we pulled into the
bus station, I caught sight of a stagnant display of half-sized MiG
fighter planes stuck on shafts. It felt as if I had suddenly fallen back
through time into the dark world of Cold War rivalries.

What is the meaning of shaft here? A or B ?
A. (architecture) a tall vertical cylindrical structure standing upright and used to support a structure.
B. a revolving rod that transmits power or motion

Shaft
Who's the black private dick
that's a sex machine to all the chicks?
(Shaft!)
You're damn right
Who is the man
that would risk his neck for his brother man?
(Shaft!)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
when there's danger all about
(Shaft!)
Right on
You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother--
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Shaft
(Then we can dig it)
He's a complicated man
but no one understands him but his woman
(John Shaft)

They are models half the size of the originals.

@contrex,

"Half-sized" and Shaft in the same sentence. It just doesn't seem possible.

I found that book: Private Dick, on the side of the road when I was teenaged... What a piece of unbridled pornography... I wonder if anyone ever made a movie of it...
