Collectively we had another good week. We went .654 which raises our season mark from .637 to .640.
Helping the cause were 10-3's from George, Rhys, Tico, Fbaezer and Panzade. Johnboy, JPB, McGentrix and Ms Cowdoc went 9-4. CoastalRat, LionTamerx, Ragman, Region, Spendius finished at 8-5 followed at 7-6 by Jespah, Mysteryman, Edgar, Wandeljw, EhBeth, AndyClubber and Cowdoc...and CoinToss/CoinToss.
The best ESPN guy was 10-3 while the worst expert probably is getting ribbed today after stumbling in at unexpertlike 6-7.

@realjohnboy,
And the Standings After Week #5:
1) Panzade (56-21 .727) extends his lead from 1 to 2 games
2) Ragman (54-23 .701) slips from a share of 1st
2) George makes a move from 5th
2) Realjohnboy advances from 3rh
5) JPB (53-24 .688) maintains a share of 5th
5) Osso dips from 3rd
7) Region (51-26 .662) stays in 7th
8) McGentrix (50-27 .649) climbs from 10th
8) Wandeljw eases down from 7th
10) Fbaezer (49-28 .636) bounces from 15th.
10) Spendius remains where he started the week
10) Mysteryman loses a pace from 9th
13) Cowdoc (48-25 .623) stumbles from 10th
13) CoastalRat holds on in a share of 13th
13) LionTamerx does the same
13) Tico gets a 5 spot pop from 18th
17) Rhys (46-31 .596) heads in the right direction from 20th
17) EhBeth heads in the wrong direction from 15th
17) AndyClubber matches that
20) Edgar (45-32 .584) heads in the direction from 18th
21) Ms Cowdoc (42-35 .545) leaves the cellar nice and tidy for
22) Jespah (41-36 .532)

The best ESPN predictor is 56-21 which would tie him with Pansade for 1st. The worst ESPN chump (46-31) would be way down there in 17th with Rhys and EhBeth. Not that I am calling them chumps, mind you. CoinToss/CoinToss is now at 44-33 .571. I am taking bets, without telling CT, as to what week CT will hit .500.

@realjohnboy,
Damn. Sorry, Osso. I counted the names in my post and came up 22.

Osso is also in the group which finished 8-5.

@realjohnboy,
Thought so, but the list I copy from to put in my posted choices sometimes changes as I post - and I didn't go back and check what I did post. Which is to say, I don't trust myself.

And the winner of Week #5 is ... Tico.
Detroit won last night's game 24-13 which left 5 players here anxiously waiting - or not - on the outcome based on the tiebreaker rules.
Rule #1: Player closest to the winning team's score of 24. Rhys and Fbaezer said 27. They threw down their helmets and dejectedly headed for the showers.
That left Panzade, Tico and George - each of whom projected a final score of 24-21 - still standing, unless they had gone to bed.
We moved to the last tiebreaker Rule: The player who is ranked lowest in the standings. Panzade is #1 followed by George in a tie for #2. Tico is #13.
Is it right to write rules that reward mediocrity? That isn't (sputter) American. I leave that to discussions on other threads, like politics, economics or our education system. The important thing for everyone to remember is this:
I wrote the stupid rules for this stupid game and if someone is angry...
Tico - mediocre Tico - gets the Gold Star for his forehead. Some may consider its luster to be a bit tarnished but as far as I am concerned he should wear it proudly.

@realjohnboy,
It is okay to give it to Tico. The others showed poor sportsmanship by throwing down their helmets and whatever. You should have seen the behavior of those of us who chose Chicago!

With nearly 300 games and assuming the Lions and Packers are not on a double-headed coin, a nifty statistician will tell you the odds at all points between .480 and .520 and the odds of the result being outside that range. rap rap say. Don't ask wande because he's not a nifty statistician. The odds on exactly .500 get shorter as the number of games increase and becomes a certainty at the infinite.

Which is like saying that with 308 million Americans the chances of picking with a pin and getting an average person are very high but, as a redeeming feature, not certain, which is a good thing because it exercises the imagination and that's always a good thing. Well-usually anyway.

@Ticomaya,
Hell's bells Tico. I won the title two years running at two attempts and I didn't let it go to my head like that.

The psychologists have a word for the condition which goes overboard on a temporary victory during a gentle slide in decrepitude. I've forgotten what it is. They have so many words for such a wide range of conditions that I have lost track.

I have a volunteer to speak for CoinToss/CoinToss this week, but not until Thursday or so. We await CT's wisdom.
