Several schools in our area have gone to year round schooling. It's a flexible schedule that allow kids to have the same amount of class time and holidays but spread out over the entire year. I can see this becoming more and more popular. The student is not forced to miss class time, or more precisely hours, if the family goes on vacation or whatnot.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Silicon-Valley schools should institute the new holiday right after Alan-Turing Day. Turing is an icon to both the computer-science community and the gay community, either of which has more Silicon-Valley members than Hinduism. Also, unlike most religious figures, Turing is the perfect role model for the kind of intellectual excellence American schools should strive for.
