What does " she is Palin — only less well-known among Republicans" mean? Does it refer to " among Republicans, she is the one about whom Palin knows little?"

But there is also plenty of reason to believe that Palin’s re-emergence into the political stratosphere could be an asset to Bachmann. Provided that Palin doesn’t actually run for president in 2012, of course, and Bachmann does.

Conventional wisdom holds that the problem for Bachmann is that she is Palin — only less well-known among Republicans.

And that’s true — to a point. But there’s also a case to be made that a Palin presence in the pre-race could ultimately help Bachmann.

It is saying that Michelle Bachman is a Sarah Palin like candidate: a lightening rod character, whimsical, relatively attractive, and politically desirable to the conservative voters and the Republican Party.

The statement is referring to Bachman getting far less media exposure and is a lesser known commoddity to the conservative population then the media hog Sarah Palin.

It means that she is similar to Palin as a politician in both her abilities and her stands on issues however she is less well known to the Republicans voters then Palin is currently.
