"This is not a business of my making nor is it to my taste."
Can I understand this sentence as "I am not responsible for this (It's not my duty to do it), and I don't like to do it "?
please help me

No, it means he had nothing to do with it (the business)... and he doesn't like it.

It has nothing to do with duty. It's more that he didn't cause it. Does that help?

WHere are you coming up with these archaic phrases? They're still used, but mainly by the older set (myself included). I've never heard a young person use this phrase, or flummery Smile

actually I am reading a novel and coming across these sentences and phrases whose meanings I am not quite sure about .
you're right. indeed, the story took place in the 1910s ...
