Why does Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, two of the most respected movie actors of our time, annoy you?
Cause they're simply intolerable. The whole overplayed aww shucks appeal of Hanks (shouldnt come across as too intelligent now!). Annoying for the same shallowness and fakeness as is GWB's. But that aint half as bad as the affected mannerisms and submerged hysteria of Streep. The way she talks, acts - just bristles my nerves. They're both annoying in almost every role they played.
Oh, and add Barbra Streisand to that list. Definitely.

Do spare me the "oh, but they're the most respected actors of our times so how can you possibly say they're annoying" line, tho. Personally, I dont estimate their acting highly - Hanks seems to mostly play the same role over and again, and if you saw Streep in House of the Spirits you'll know how truly embarassingly awful that was - but thats beside the point. Point is I'm sure you can come up with some pop artists you personally find annoying, even if others count them among "the most respected", I dunno, rappers, or DJ's, rock bands, whatever.
If an "appeal to authority" is a fallacy in logical argument it must be even more so when we're just talking people's feelings.
Tom Hanks annoys me too, just don't understand why people think he's so great...he bores me.
Streep is amazing.
nimh, I merely asked why they annoyed you. We're free to agree or disagree here. This is merely a matter of opinion and you are absolutely free to have yours.

Jim Carrey annoys me and so does Robin Williams. He just gives me the creeps. Oh, and William Shatner. He should have stuck to star trek, because now he is just making a fool out of himself.

But, to really get to the point, I suggest you all rent "The Cable Guy" and see if Jim Carrey can get under your skin. I'm not a big Carrey fan but this time he really made mine crawl. Great stuff.

I used to think that Fran was pretty annoying as well but started watching reruns of The Nanny and, she was actually quite funny and gorgeous.

Ditto-really I think it's just the Voice, and the Nanny was one of those series that had about 6 epsiodes of good premis they turned into seasons.

Mrs. Tico likes watching reruns of "The Nanny", and I admit it is funny, ... but she's still annoying. It's the voice and the laugh.
