Is there really a soul, a spirit, that lives in some form that is our essence, that survives somewhere after our death? And will possibly be born again or united with other familiar spirits at some time in on-going eternity? As in the concept of a heaven?

No one knows. Those who say they know that there is are lying, and those who say they know that there is not are also lying.
It's a matter of belief, and if you have seen through the dogmatic teachings of your upbringing it becomes a choice of what you want to believe.
