Is there something wrong with the following sentence: "When Mom told my brother and me that she was going to the Persian Gulf, we were worried." Bad writing I'm sure, but is it grammatically correct.

If you break the subject and object up this way, you can see it is grammatically correct:

"When Mom told my brother that she was going to the Persian Gulf, he was worried."

"When Mom told me that she was going to the Persian Gulf, I was worried."

Awkward doesn't mean ungrammatical, but I don't even see it as awkward. Perhaps if you explain what you mean, we could help you more.
