Hi

I read a sentance of book on American history which puzzled me like ' As the twentieth century began, three- fourths of the American population inhabiteed the eastern third of the nation.' Does ' the eastern third' mean a proposion? Thank you!

@Ellen-83,
No. It just means that the eastern part of the country had the highest population density.

@laughoutlood,
Are you thinking " proposion" was intended to mean "portion"? I made my best guess and came up with handfull of empty.

@laughoutlood,
I don't think so, so I gave it my best shot. Dadpad is good at interpreting questions, but he's not always here.
