I didn't notice any women in pantsuits at the wedding, although, in my mind, an attractive pantsuit would have been appropriate. While I probably would have worn a skirt suit, or a dress, had I been invited, I was just wondering whether the British dress code for women at that sort of event prohibits or frowns on wearing pants.
My problem with some of the sillier hats is that they draw attention to the hat rather than enhancing the attractiveness of the woman wearing the hat. I think that was true of even the relatively simple hat that Victoria Beckham wore in the middle of her forehead--your eye was drawn to the hat. I love hats, even though I rarely get to wear one. But, when I have worn hats, I chose a style because it made me look better and completed my outfit in a coordinated manner, and not because it was making a fashion statement all on its own.

Wimbledon was the last womens tennis event that demanded that women not wear shorts.
@ehBeth,
Thanks, ehBeth, I guess pants for women aren't part of the equation.

That hat looked like her gas filler cap
@firefly,
In the case of Victoria, it was all the better that the hat took centre stage. She had a joyless face in every picture I've seen.
@ossobuco,
"She looks like trouble on two feet.."
She is three year old Grace Van Cutsem, the great-great-great-granddaughter of William Waldorf Astor, and she doesn't like loud noises!
Prolly be a librarian when she grows up.
@Old Goat,
She was something of a breath of fresh air with all the on best behavior folks all around, at least in the photographs.

When I saw there was a new post on this thread I thought it was going to be that "ugly stepsister" thing that has been going around:
(In case it's not obvious the colors have been photoshopped to match. Original):
I love these frowning girls...
oh, and now for something completely different...
@sozobe,
Ive been out of town alot lately so I missed the doings. What the hell is that thing on the head of the girl on the right(bottom pic on left with gorl in pink dress with the antlers)?
It makes her look like one of santas reindeer. She wore that??
Are these people insane?
@farmerman,
Yes, she wore it.
We named it "the pretzel".
They might be insane but they are so rich that nobody does anything about it.
There is a chain of thought in the UK that the hat designer was inspired by an oversized model of a lady's front bottom that was on display at a Gynae exhibition at nearby St Thomas's.
@Old Goat,
Ive seen that sort of design (the reindeer "hat") along the stemsides of canal boats that are used for recreation vehicles in Europe.
@firefly,
So funny! It's probably bad manners to comment, but I can't help wondering how people at the wedding responded to her. I'd have had the hardest time not staring at the hat...and trying not to laugh. Even being accustomed to seeing them regularly, that one is still a stand out!
@firefly,
that was full of fabulous firefly
