Here he is taking a walk in the new neighborhood. My new neighbor across the street threw her arms up and walked inside, welcome to the neighborhood!

@ehBeth,
hehe I haven't weighed him lately but I had to widen his house because he already out grew it and couldn't get inside.

He's getting too heavy to pick up!

why do your tortoises look so, errrrm, lumpy? this one's shell seems comparatively smooth/flat

@ehBeth,
They’re pyramiding a little. At least Henry is, Harry isn’t. Some say they need a dryer climate and Florida isn’t good for them, but we have seen them in the zoos here and it’s the same, some have the lumps, others don’t. I don't think they really know what causes it.

@ehBeth,
Perhaps it is the flat lighting and straight-on pose? If the tortoise was skim-lighted (sideways lighting) you would see texture and surface of the lumps and bumps.

Then again it could be environmental issue (raised on a different diet or climate issue).

@Ragman,
That could be it too! you can see the large tortoise does have some slight lumps. He's also full grown, so they may have smoothed out a bit.

@jcboy,
Yeah, your tortoise's is/are a bit still in adolesence so they/it has some growing into the shell to match the other photo's tortoises age...etc.\

Another theory cold besome genetic cross-breeding with another tortoise type? Or perhaps slightly different diet type as it was growing (too much meat early in it's development) I read on one of the info sites where in some cases they have to be weaned away from a high amount from meat in their diet early in their growth and be on primarily veggies as they become older. Right?

@Ragman,
Yep strictly vegans, they’re not suppose to have any kind of meat at all, I’ve read protein isn’t good for them.

Here is Henry walking in the bathroom getting ready for his hot bath. He’s growing every day it seems. Busted his new black plastic tub I bought him. Cool

@tsarstepan,
That’s cute, I just got done chopping up some butternut squash for the tortoises. Henry has grown so much I had to cut a larger opening to his house.

@OmSigDAVID,
Check out Henry, he’s gained another pound, almost too heavy to hold with one hand. He’s got butternut squash all over his face.

@ehBeth,
Little Harry is growing but not nearly as fast as Henry. I think females get larger faster; I might have a Henrietta on my hands! Shocked Razz

@OmSigDAVID,
Henry is now five years old and Harry is four, that means they can continue to grow probably for another ten years, usually doubling in size every year.

I’m thinking about getting another one.

Cool
