Context:

I can sing again: Teenager's joy at hitting the high notes after throat cancer left him without a voice

Eddie Masih, 18, from Birmingham, needed two operations after a cancerous tumour was found in his throat when he was just 10.

No, his throat has healed and now he can sing and hit the high notes, no tools needed. Many singers lose the ability forever sing again after any type of throat surgery, he has regained that gift again. Most people lose the ability to sing to the really high notes as they get older as well.
