Democracy in the U.S. style simply does not work in China. Singing high praises of freedom of speech and democracy is one matter; advancing a vast country of extreme diversity is another.

Have the Chinese government detained any more Australians today? or released Yang Hengiun (Yang Jun) yet?

@dadpad,
Chinese detainee heralds return
John Garnaut
April 1, 2011

Julia Gillard (Australian Prime minister) had faced a diplomatic challenge over the affair after China yesterday refused to acknowledge Dr Yang's detention, just weeks away from her first visit to China as Prime Minister.

Ms Gillard's challenge in encouraging the Chinese government to abide by a bilateral consular agreement were further complicated when she publicly endorsed the story that Dr Yang, an Australian citizen, was merely ''in hospital'' rather than in the custody of Chinese secret police.

Dr Yang, who disappeared on Sunday and had not been seen since, appears to have negotiated a face-saving deal to secure his freedom.

@oristarA,
I might have used 'of' rather than 'in' [second word] and maybe 'for' for 'of' in "high praises for ..." and no semi-colon after 'matter', just a comma.

Other than that, it sounds fine to me, Ori.

Just read that China arrested, detained, and blocked hundreds of people today who were trying to attend an Easter ceremony in a "private home" church. A CNN new crew attempting to report on it was briefly taken into custody.
