Would you allow your tween to wear a push-up bikini top?

Minor detail, but the very best push-up I have is from Australia - no underwire.

That's because when you wear it you'd be upside down. It's all a matter of gravity.

duh. Shocked

Come on....it is clearly intended to sexually excite. Not adult men I imagine, but males several years older than the girl who sports this.

Disagree completely and whole heartedly.

I think its targeted at little girls who want to look more grown up and possibly mothers who say want to say "awww she's really starting to grow up".
Tweens up to about 12 never think "I'll buy this cause boys/men will look at me". They buy things because they want to look more grown up, because their friends have it, because the magazines tell them its hot and because mum (and/or dad) doesnt want me to. Sometimes they even buy things because they think it looks or feels nice or keeps them warm or cool.

One of America's largest clothing retail chains Abercrombie & Fitch announced Tuesday it would continue to sell its push-up bikini tops for young girls, despite sparking outrage last week.
Instead Abercrombie Kids -- a division of the company dedicated to eight to 14-year-olds -- said it would change its marketing strategy for the "Ashley" Push-Up Triangle bikini to say "padded."
The fashion company, which had marketed the bikinis to girls as young as eight, made the announcement on its Facebook page.
"We've re-categorized the Ashley swimsuit as padded. We agree with those who say it is best 'suited' for girls age 12 and older," it stated on the social networking website.

@hawkeye10,
Stupid Fox News.

First line should be:

"One of America's largest clothing retail chains, Abercrombie & Fitch, announced Tuesday it would continue to sell the bikini tops that sparked outrage last week."

They aren't push-up bikini tops. What's changing is the strategy, not what the suits are. ("Young girls" is questionable, too. I don't know if "12 and up" really fits in that category.)

I think your beef is with the retailer, the one who claims that they are.

@hawkeye10,
Both.

Abercrombie and Fitch was stupid to call them "push-up bras," (they're not, from appearances), and Fox was being stupid and sensationalistic (as per usual) to say that they ARE push-up bras.

@hawkeye10,
Teens are just the kind of people who go the new fad of style I would say ok to pushups simply because your teen has to express herself and expiriment... Who knows you teen might not like the push up thing and drip it altogether. Smile

These are the worst products of the year.

1. Ashley Push-Up Triangle
Company: Abercrombie & Fitch

While no stranger to controversy, Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) seemed to have crossed a line this time. In March, 2011, the retailer unveiled its spring line for Abercrombie Kids, a division targeting children ages 8 to 14. Included in the line was the “Ashley” Push-Up Triangle, a bikini top with padding. The launch prompted a violent response from parent groups. Several child development experts also criticized the top because it sexualized young girls. At first, Abercrombie tried to address the concerns by reclassifying the top as padded and saying it was not intended for very young girls. It stated on Facebook: “We’ve re-categorized the Ashley swimsuit as padded. We agree with those who say it is best ‘suited’ for girls age 12 and older.” But while the bottoms are still available, the bikini top is no longer featured on the company’s website.

#1? Considering that they likely were intended to drum up chatter rather than sell a lot I dont think this ranking is deserved

No no no, under no circumstances is this acceptable! Tweens are still children, and should be treated like children.

Kids these days grow up too fast!

It is so hard to find a bikini top without a push-up insert!

Really, they're everywhere.

We had to resort to Johnny B, which is specifically for tweens/ teens (10-16, I think). And it's awesome, but it was ridiculously hard to find something suitable.

The non-push-ups were either super thin or super tiny or super low-cut or all of the above.

Years ago, I walked in on my young teen trying on one of those push up top thingumydoodahs and I went mad.

I can't remember my exact words, but I definitely told him in no uncertain terms that he should be out playing football with his mates.

Little girls no need to wear push up bikinis. Girls and tween look great when they wear a push-up bikini top.

about six months back I was reading a feminist who is upset that what this culture teaches is beautiful for females is the norm of "looking like a porn star". I agree that this is what is taught but I like it that way.

@hawkeye10,
on a related note: I was at my kids HS graduation and I swear every single good looking girl in the choir was in an itty bitty slutty little black dress and every single fat and/or ugly one was in pants. very interesting statement here.

I would say no to an 8-10 year old, 11 is maybe, 12 and up is fine...

What say you?
I 'd take a fully libertarian, Individualist position.
