Why can't they make any African-American sitcoms now that are good?

@JGoldman10,
I have never watched the new ones now running. I have to agree they are bad. Why don't you try writing a pilot and see if there is any interest?

@edgarblythe,
I would if I was interested in writing for TV.

I don't watch a lot of the stuff they have on black cable/satellite networks. A lot of it is offensive.

@edgarblythe,
I am certain other African-Americans would agree the shows they go on NOW are offensive and stupid.

@Bella Dea,
Tripe is a fanciful word for rubbish, schlock, dreck, garbage.

@JGoldman10,
Uh, no that would be TRITE.

And really that doesn't mean what you think it means either.

Trite: Overused and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness.

EDIT:
I stand corrected. Tripe does in fact mean something poor, worthless or offensive. (as well as being a dish of cow stomach)

Hm.

Who knew?

@Bella Dea,
What are your thoughts on black sitcoms these days?

@JGoldman10,
Not black, but hispanic - George Lopez. I haven't watched much of it, but my older daugher likes it.

I think the general attitute of the actors and actresses who star and act in the current crop of black shows is that they don't care if they are playing stereotypical roles. They are getting paid.

I think that's the same attitude for Hispanic, Asian, and other actors of color in this business.

They have a Black Comedy Showcase that comes on every Friday night on one of the Afrocentric stations. George Wallace was hilarious.

The new black shows they have out NOW are mostly STEREOTYPICAL TRIPE and it's OFFENSIVE.
Unlike black music right*sarcasm*...which I point out is made by blacks mostly for blacks. Is there any black art that is not tripe and/or offensive? ..... because I cant think of any...most of the black writing for instance is pure tripe, regardless of how often in is celebrated.

Black culture is crap, it is not just the art.

Mark Curry was on there. He wasn't as funny as George Wallace.

I think the show was on Centric. They were showing comedy shows from the '90s.

@JGoldman10,
I have to agree. But not just "Black" sitcoms. Most current sitcoms suck.
I have been watching Modern Family which is laugh out loud funny at times, if you take it for what it is. However, I don't think they have any major roles played by Blacks.

On a broader sense, however, I wonder how much is cultural and how much is corporations spending too much time on polls and being cutting edge rather than focusing on substance and quality. Everything seems to be a "gimmick" these days, as they try to push the envelope. Look at Family Guy. I find it horribly wrong on so many levels and yet can't help but laugh until my sides at times. Perhaps it's because I'd like to think that we, as a nation, are finally getting over the uber-sensitivity we're supposed to feel towards all people, animals, plants, and possible alien life forms that haven't been discovered.

PS - Eating Tripe is pretty darn offensive, if you ask me! Nothing personal to our bovine brethren. =P

I have seen Half And Half- it features the woman who played Rachel on Family Matters:

that is stupid.

I just watched All of Us, a sitcom Will Smith produced. It plays out like a bad soap opera.
