@maxdancona,
Obama is a Christian and he's a democrat. There are lots of Christians who are Democrats. Pelosi is a Catholic. Kerry is a Catholic. Biden is a Catholic.

Perhaps you're confused.

@Renaldo Dubois,
it's interesting that you even know that, or more that it's important, as f'ed up as Canada may be the religion of my politicians rarely comes into play, i know a few and could probably guess some, but we don't seem to put the stock in it that America (and let's be honest especially right America) does

i'd be happy if all my politicians were atheists, it would be one less bit of baggage they bring to the table

@djjd62,
I knew about the president and Kerry since they've both talked about it a lot. Had no idea about Biden or Pelosi.

@Irishk,
on a national stage Canadian politicians don't make a big deal of their religion, the Conservative Party today is an amalgam of traditional conservatives and a very religious right wing (from the west mainly) group who attempted a separate party, both were floundering but have managed to make a joined group work

the extreme right wing party made a big deal of their religion, but since the merger it's turned way down, a politician might say something about his faith or belief but it's more a general statement than a proclamation of their religious stand

I'd like to see the Beautitudes practiced, by law, inside the Beltway of Washington D.C. and strictly enforced.
* The poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
* Mourners; they will be comforted.
* Those that hunger and thirst after righteousness; they will be filled.
* Those persecuted for seeking righteousness. The text says that theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The beatitudes present in the Gospel of Luke are:

* The poor. The text says that theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
* "Those who are weeping". The text says that they "will laugh".
* The hungry. The text says that they will "be satisfied".
* "Followers of the Son of Man". The text says that theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The beatitudes present only in Matthew are:

* The meek. The text says that they will "inherit the earth".
* The merciful. The text says that they will "obtain mercy".
* The pure of heart. The text says that they will "see God".
* The peacemakers. The text says that they will be called "the sons of God".[7] Other translations use the phrase "Children of God"

So it looks to me that this is really not about equal rights and Sharia Law. It looks more like a smokescreen to marginalize the Tea Party Conservatives.

We know the left is extremely upset at the Tea Party for upsetting the "hope and change". Evidently, the left needs to find some voters.

You seem confused Renaldo.
You don't seem to understand the difference between practicing your religion and forcing others to practice your religion.

@Renaldo Dubois,
my right to hate all political parties

actually i don't so much hate the parties, it's the politicians, sort of like religion, it seems like a pretty good idea until the people directing it and following it get involved

@djjd62,
That's the trouble with having power over people. People are constantly abusing it. The longer they have the power, the more they abuse it and the greater the damage is.

@maxdancona,
Sharia permits husbands to beat their wives for nothing more than attitude

Quote:
4:34 . . . If you fear highhandedness from your wives, remind them [of the teaching of God], then ignore them when you go to bed, then hit them. If they obey you, you have no right to act against them. God is most high and great. (MAS Abdel Haleem, the Qur'an, Oxford UP, 2004)

Sharia calls for homosexuals to be executed

Specifically, it calls on them to be burned to death or to have a wall fall upon them. This is by virtue of what is contained in the hadith - the account of The Prophet's life.

The Taliban, who imposed Sharia on Afghanistan, sentenced three homosexual men to having a stone wall pushed over on them. If they survived in the rubble for 30 minutes they would be spared.

Enlightened Muslim nations that subscribe to Sharia today don't usually execute homosexuals, they simply imprison them for life.

Sharia calls for execution of infidels who criticize Islam or The Prophet

Sharia calls for the execution of Believers who turn from Islam to another faith.

Sharia requires at least one male witness (the proper number is four) to a rape in order to convict the rapist. The testimony of the female victim is not only meaningless, if she doesn't produce a male witness, it can be used to convict her of adultery. Here again, enlightened Muslim nations usually just imprison rather than execute rape victims who cannot produce a witness.

Sharia calls for the mutilation or execution of theives, drinkers, adulterers, and fornicators.

Your desire to have Americans who happen to be Muslim treated in the same manner as any other American is fine. Equal treatment under the law, however, doesn't mean they are allowed to impose an alternative set of laws (Sharia) in their community or elsewhere.

It seems clear to me that you have very little knowledge of what Sharia actually is. Your insistence that there can be "Christian Sharia" is simply one example of this.

Insisting on equal treatment for Americans who are Muslim, Jewish, Christian et al is also quite fine. What is not, is insisting that there is no difference in the modern day practical impact of extreme Islam and the extremes of other world religions.

This is not an indictment of all the world's Muslim, it is a clear uderstanding of the threats in our lives.

@Finn dAbuzz,
This is a silly game Finn,

The Jewish and Christian Bible calls for killing disobedient children.

Quote:
"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death.

And for killing young girls who can't produce the correct spots of blood on their underwear.

Quote:
Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:
And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;
And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.
And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;
And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.
But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

Not to mention the Bible's feeling about killing homosexuals.

@H2O MAN,
And you are playing a silly game as well H20Man.

Christians are guilty of genocide, recently in Serbia and Rwanda. You still have Christians murdering children in real witch hunts and Christians are actively pursuing "Kill the Gays" legislation in Uganda.

I bore a lot of resentment against those Serbians.
I felt inclined to arm their victims, the Moslem Bosnians.

I abhorred Bush's decision against arming them.
