The following was a question in my nephew's annual exam two days ago. He asked me to tell him the answer. I failed.

[Fill in the blanks in the following passage with the appropriate linking words/phrases chosen from the list given in the brackets below the passage]


--------man looks upon himself as the master of the universe, he is ----------------at the mercy of the Nature. ----------------- much he has harnessed the forces of nature, he is at his wits end when the elements display their unconquerable fury. --------------man has been continually striving to conquer Nature. ------------- man has made innumerable inventions that have made his living on the earth less hazardous and more comfortable than what it was say a century ago.

I don't think one is allowed to use a word more than once. There are five blanks to be filled with the five given words.

I wonder if the question is wrong.
