Context:

Defective urethras can be the result of injury, disease or birth defects. While short defects in the tube are often easily repairable, larger defects can require a tissue graft, usually taken from skin or from the lining of the cheek.

The cheek is that portion of the face on either side of the mouth, below the level of the eyes and above the jaw line. The term is used to refer both to the outside, and the inside of that piece of tissue, which can be reached through the mouth. The interior tissue is commonly used as a source of cells from the epithelium, and therefore for genetic testing.
