@JGoldman10,
I did not want to get involved with this. And I still don't. I have every intention for this is my one and only time I will speak about this matter. And, no, I will not respond to questions about this, either here, or in PM, or on the Help Desk or in email or on Facebook.
I am sorry if you feel that it is my duty to tell you when you are doing wrong. You are a grown man, I am a grown woman, we are all grown ups here, even when we act immaturely. I have neither the time nor the desire nor the patience nor the wherewithal to intimately direct others' behavoirs here.
There are nearly 200,000 members on this site. And, while they certainly do not all post at once, that means that my staff and I spend a lot of time investigating possible spam and other problems. I have been called in the middle of the night -- and more than once although, thankfully, not recently -- when there have been site issues.
I work here, yes, but I also have a life and family and job outside of here, as do the volunteers who work with me, so getting into the minutiae of directing others' behaviors is just not gonna be done by any of us. This is why all 190,000+ some odd site members have the tools for ignoring others.
The desire is that these 190,000+ members will use these tools intelligently and in the spirit in which they were provided -- to tailor their experiences as they wish. My staff and I are not here to radically tailor (with a machete) everyone's experiences here. We are here to get rid of spam and porn. We are here to deal with what is most egregious. And we are the sole arbiters of what is most egregious. So far as I can tell, the behaviors as exhibited here and elsewhere are perfectly curable through the application of either using the ignore feature or, quite literally, scrolling past what someone has written.
I do wish that people would stop poking one another with sticks. I find it counterproductive, personally, but I am not the mother of anyone here. If they wish to spend their time doing this, then I am not going to stop them. That is their experience on A2K -- and if it is upsetting, or boring, or offensive, then it is of their own making. The expression is that people have made their bed, and are lying in it.
My staff and I are not here to change the sheets.
