In a meeting at Next's headquaters on the shore of San Francisco Bay, Steve Jobs looked around at the besieged refugees of his thinned-out executive team and he told them, in a tone of bitterness and envy: "Everyone here can leave—except me."

What does "besieged refugees" mean here?

@PennyChan,
In this case, it would be those executives that had not yet lost their jobs.

At one time, Steve Jobs formed a company to develope and market a computer called the NEXT. It was too radical. It had no disc drives, and at the time, there was no other way to imput data except keyboard. It was supposed to get all programs and other software from the internet. As computers go, this is fairly ancient history.
